Everyone knows oats, but most people don’t know the three different kinds, that also acquires a different preparation. Rolled oats, are probably the oat flakes you know, which take about 5 minutes to cook. Furthermore, there are the quick oats, rolled in even thinner pieces to turn down the cooking time into just 1 minute. Steel-cut oats are the most uncommon kind. These oats are cut into several pieces and steamed instead of rolled. They take about 25 minutes to cook. That’s a while longer that the previous two, but it results into a chewier consistency. Now you know the different types of common oats, you can make a choice on what kind of oats will you use for your breakfast. The following delicious recipe can be made with the oats you like best!
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup of oats
- 1/2 cup of water
- 1/2 cup of milk (you can also go for almond or coconut milk)
- 1 small ripe banana, sliced thin.
- 1 tables poon of maple syrup
- 1/2 tea spoon of vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup of dried cranberries, blueberries or both, sliced in half.
- 1 table spoon of sliced almonds, and walnuts, or whatever kind of nut you like.
How to make it
Combine the oats, water, milk, and banana slices in a saucepan in a pan and put in on the stove on medium heat. Once bubbling, turn the heat down, stir and cook for about 3 minutes until the oats turn into a creamy mixture. Use a spatula to mash the banana slices. Remove pan from the stove, then stir in the maple syrup, and vanilla extract. Pour the mixture into your breakfast bowl, then top with the fruit and nuts.
