The Lapsang Souchong red tea, which is from the Fujian province of China, is very distinctive with its exotic flavor. After plucking, the leaves are withered over cypress or pine wood fires, followed by the rolling process. Afterwards, they are placed into wooden barrels until they begin to emit their own pleasant aroma. As a final step they are placed in bamboo baskets and hung on racks over smoky pine fires. This is where they dry and absorb the smoky essence. The cinnamon and saffron are adding antibacterial and nourishing properties to the tea, and turn it into a beautiful red/orange color.
